The review can include account structure, customer and supplier records, opening balances, tax codes and bank-feed rules. Access permissions should fit each person's role. Existing accountant access and responsibility for changes are confirmed at the start.
Test the accounting effect of an integration
An imported deposit might be a customer payment, a processor transfer or a loan advance. Automatic categorization is only useful when the underlying rule is appropriate. We compare a sample of source transactions to the resulting entries and reconcile the control accounts before relying on an ongoing import.
Illustrative example: storefront and online checkout
A Calgary retailer imports online orders into its books while terminal settlements arrive separately. We identify which system creates the sale and which records the payment. That prevents a successful bank-feed match from masking duplicated revenue or missing processing fees.
